The two most common excuses for not having a blog are a) I don’t have the time to do it and b) I don’t know what to write about.
Finding the time: To make your company’s blog work, you must set aside time to write it on a regular basis. It may take you 30 minutes, or it may take a couple of hours, depending on your speed and the topic. You can do it first thing in the morning and write it while sipping your coffee … or write it later in the evening when the kids are in the bed and you have a little time to decompress.
The main thing is to set aside a time and get it done. Don’t bite off more than you can chew in the beginning. One blog per week for your business should be plenty for starters. But you must commit to it. You will see zero results if you only make sporadic posts. Consistency is the key.
Finding the topics: It shouldn’t be that difficult to find a topic to write about in your blog. You may just need to sit down and brainstorm for a few minutes to come up with the subject matter. Remember, in most instances, your blog is not a tool to sell your product or services. It is an opportunity to provide useful content that will help your readers and enhance your status in their eyes. You want them to know, trust and like you – and that’s possible when you are a smart blogger.
Remember, these blogs don’t need to be very long. A 500-word blog is more than enough to get the job done. Only your hard-core clients are going to read more than that, so set 500 words as a guideline and put the brakes on at 600 words. If you’re just overflowing with great information, break your blog post into two parts. For the most part, a 1,000-word blog post will either get skipped or skimmed – and neither one is an effective use of your time.
Ah, but the subject matter, you say. What can I write about? That’s where this special report will be most helpful. Below you’ll find the eight of the most useful types of blogs. Consider these to be the eight pillars of your blog-writing program. Within each of these pillars, there are numerous types of these blogs.
These will help you brainstorm ideas and put them in the right places. Once you get the creative juices flowing, you’ll likely be able to come up with a lot of different ideas you never thought about in the past.
The important thing is to get started. Blogs are a great way to establish your voice of authority if your field.
